Tonight's Guest Conductors
Dave Yamamoto was a music educator of students from grades 4-Junior College from 1973 until his retirement from Corvallis Middle School in 2020. His five decade career included being an arranger/composer, a stint as a Disneyland musician, and freelance conductor/trombone/tuba player with many Southern California orchestras, chamber groups, and Jazz bands, including over 30 years with the Carson Symphony. He was fortunate enough to have opportunities to work in several stage and movie productions, and has even fronted some garage bands that performed in summer fairs. His Music Education Degrees include a BA from California State University Dominguez Hills and an MA from California State University Fullerton. He was also part of the amazing Jazz and Band programs of Long Beach City College in the 1970s.
Dave has been married to Lisa Cheoros-Yamamoto since 1989, and together they have two amazing daughters, Sophia, a writer and classical Japanese dancer, and Andréa, a vocalist/voice-over artist and vocal music teacher (and frequent substitute teacher in NLMUSD).
Of all his activities and experiences, teaching young people was really his mission in life. Having the ability to show students how music and life works gave him the greatest satisfaction, and still does to this day. He is profoundly grateful to Mr. Castañeda for the opportunity to perform with the Norwalk High musicians here today.
Lisa Yamamoto is busy performing, teaching, and adjudicating. She is a freelance solo musician and accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists for master classes, juries, recitals, and competitions. She currently has a private studio of more than 30 flute and piano students. Formerly, she has taught string orchestra and choir at Edwards Middle School in Whittier, Corvallis Middle School and Norwalk High School. She has also been an instructor for Class Voice and Music Basics at Irvine Valley College and for American Music History and Music Appreciation and World Music classes at National University. She has coached many students in many secondary schools form all over the southland.
As a professional performer, she plays with her chamber group, The Madeleine Trio (formerly Triple Entendre) and they have performed all over the Southern California. She has played in orchestras backing up famous acts such as Andrea Bocelli, Shakar Bineshpajoo, Rita Moreno, Dale Christien, Robert Guilliaume, the Live and Let Die band as well as, recordings for The Alan Parsons Project, Chance The Rapper and The Social Experiment and many short films.
Mrs. Yamamoto holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in flute performance from Cal State, Dominguez Hills as well as a Single Subject Teaching Credential in K-12 Music and holds a Master of Music Degree from Cal State, Fullerton.
She would like to congratulate the graduating seniors in the Norwalk High School class of 2022! Know that life’s journey will take you places you never thought possible! Good luck for a bright and promising future ahead full of amazing opportunities! You are already ALL successes!
