The Norwalk High School Instrumental Music Department is open to students of all experience levels who are ready to learn, grow, perform, and contribute to the program.

Students have opportunities to participate in marching band, concert band, string orchestra, jazz band, drumline, pep band, school performances, community events, festivals, and travel opportunities throughout the year.

Each ensemble helps students develop musicianship, leadership, discipline, teamwork, confidence, and pride in representing Norwalk High School.
Lancer Regiment
The Lancer Regiment is the marching and performance ensemble of the Norwalk High School Instrumental Music Department.

Students in grades 9–12 participate as brass, woodwind, percussion, and visual performers while representing Norwalk High School at football games, pep rallies, parades, school events, community performances, and select travel opportunities.

The Lancer Regiment builds the foundation for many of our program’s fall traditions. Students develop music skills, marching fundamentals, teamwork, discipline, leadership, and school spirit while performing as one of the most visible student groups on campus.

Summer rehearsals and fall performances are an important part of the Lancer Regiment experience. Students and families should review the program calendar and communicate any conflicts early.

Concert Band
Concert Band gives students the opportunity to perform traditional and contemporary wind band literature while continuing to develop tone quality, technique, ensemble awareness, musical expression, and performance confidence.

Students perform at concerts, school events, and festival opportunities throughout the year. Concert Band helps musicians grow through focused rehearsal, meaningful repertoire, and high standards of preparation and performance.

String Orchestra
String Orchestra is open to violin, viola, cello, and bass students who want to continue developing their musicianship through ensemble performance.

Students explore a variety of orchestral literature while building tone, technique, listening skills, musical independence, and ensemble communication. The String Orchestra performs at concerts, school events, community performances, and festival opportunities.

Students who participated in middle school orchestra are encouraged to continue their music pathway at Norwalk High School.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band is an advanced ensemble focused on styles such as big band, blues, funk, Latin, pop, rock, and contemporary jazz.

Students develop improvisation, style, groove, chord progressions, listening skills, and ensemble communication through regular rehearsal and performance. Because Jazz Band requires strong reading skills and musical independence, students are expected to also participate in a band or orchestra class, unless approved by the director.

Drumline / Percussion
The Norwalk Drumline gives percussion students opportunities to develop technique, timing, coordination, responsibility, and performance energy.

Percussion students support the Lancer Regiment, pep band, concerts, rallies, football games, parades, and other school or community events. Students may perform on battery percussion, mallet instruments, auxiliary percussion, or concert percussion depending on placement, experience, and program needs.

Participation may include after-school rehearsals or additional performance commitments depending on the season.

The Lancer Bunch (a.k.a Pep Band)
The Lancer Bunch is Norwalk High School’s pep band, bringing energy, school spirit, and live music to athletic events, rallies, and campus celebrations.

This ensemble performs popular music, stand tunes, and school spirit music while supporting Norwalk High School teams and events. The Lancer Bunch gives students another opportunity to perform, connect with campus life, and represent the music department with pride.
