Dear Parent or Guardian,
Welcome to the Norwalk High School Instrumental Music Department—home to one of the most active and enriching student programs on campus. As your child prepares to enter high school, they now have the opportunity to become part of a community that values growth, creativity, and connection through music.
If this is your first experience with music education, I want to take a moment to personally welcome you and share a few important details.
On our Future Lancer tab, you’ll find information about our program and the many opportunities available to your child—from ensemble placement to performance events, leadership roles, and more. I encourage you to explore these resources together as a family. If you have questions along the way, feel free to reach out to me directly—my contact information is listed below.
Being part of the music department is more than just learning an instrument. It means joining a team of hardworking students, dedicated coaches, and caring teachers. It builds discipline, responsibility, creativity, and leadership—all while introducing students to a language that transcends borders: music.
Research shows that students involved in music not only perform better academically, but are also more likely to build positive peer relationships and less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Simply put: music students thrive—inside and outside the classroom.
At Norwalk, we create space for every student to grow. Whether your child dreams of performing on stage, leading in a student role, or just being part of something meaningful, this program will challenge and support them every step of the way.
We can’t promise every student will become a musical prodigy—but we can promise they’ll learn, laugh, and grow along the way.
Thank you for considering the Norwalk High School Instrumental Music Department. We’re excited to welcome your family into ours.
Warmly,
Mr. Ramiro Castañeda
